Ebbinghaus forgetting curve

German psychologist Ebbinghaus found that forgetting starts immediately after learning and the process is uneven.

Forgetting pattern:

  • • After 20 min: 42% forgotten
  • • After 1 hour: 56% forgotten
  • • After 1 day: 74% forgotten
  • • After 1 week: 77% forgotten
  • • After 1 month: 79% forgotten

Reviewing at specific time points can greatly improve memory retention.
